Mesh Blocks

Overview

Mesh Blocks are the smallest geography in the new ASGS and will contain approximately 30-60 dwellings. Due to potential privacy implications, only three data variables are released for Mesh Blocks:

  • Land Use Indicator
  • Population
  • Household Counts

Pros

  • Aggregate cleanly to SA1s
    Aim: 30 - 60 dwellings
  • Improved granularity
    347,627 in 2011 versus 314,369 in 2006
  • Land Use classification continued
    Each region has a classification assigned including: water, parkland, residential, industrial, commercial, education, hospital/medical, agricultural, transport and other

Cons

  • Adjustments required if previously using the old version
